CyManII launches no-cost Cyber Readiness Program to help manufacturers strengthen cybersecurity
As cyber threats continue to pose growing risks to manufacturers and critical infrastructure, many organizations know they need to improve their cybersecurity but aren’t sure where to begin.
The Cybersecurity Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CyManII) is addressing that gap with a new 7-week CyManII Cyber Readiness Program (CCRP) designed to help organizations build and strengthen their cybersecurity programs through hands-on implementation.
Joe Mallen, CyManII’s Director of Workforce Education and Cyber Programs, discussed the initiative during a recent appearance on the CMMC Proof Podcast. The inaugural cohort begins September 1, 2026, and will be limited to 10 organizations nationwide, with manufacturers receiving priority.
Rather than simply providing cybersecurity information, the program is designed to help participants put that knowledge into practice. Each week, organizations will complete practical deliverables, including cybersecurity policies, asset inventories, risk assessments, action plans, incident response plans and other documentation they can immediately use within their organizations.
The program is built around the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework, providing participants with a recognized roadmap for developing their cybersecurity programs.
A key component is accountability. Participants will take part in weekly coaching calls hosted by Mallen, giving organizations an opportunity to share challenges, exchange ideas and learn from one another while staying on track with their assignments.
“This is an application for an organization, not for an individual,” Mallen said during the podcast. “Organizations can invite multiple employees, including IT personnel, managers and leadership, to participate.”
After completing the seven-week core program, participants can pursue optional tracks focused on Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC), operational technology (OT) cybersecurity or executive leadership.
Mallen also highlighted CyManII’s cloud-based cyber range, which provides realistic simulated cyberattacks in enterprise-grade IT and OT environments. The range includes more than 60 simulated attack scenarios and can be accessed remotely, allowing CyManII to bring hands-on cybersecurity training to communities across the country.
The CCRP’s first cohort is being offered at no cost through Department of Energy (DOE) funding.
For organizations interested in improving their cybersecurity posture, the program offers more than training. It provides a practical framework, ongoing coaching and tangible tools to begin building a stronger cybersecurity program.
Applications are currently being accepted for the inaugural cohort.
